MCGOWAN LEADS FOYLE VALLEY TO TEAM WIN AT OMAGH HALF MARATHON

Foyle Valley Athletic Club from Derry were the winners of the team event at today’s 25th Sparta Omagh Half Marathon.

The Valley were led home by in-form Adrian McGowan who clinched a top ten position.

The race was won Eddie McGinley, of Annadale Striders, Belfast who crossed the finishing line in a time of 1.06.35.

McGinley’s only other outing over the 13.1 mile distance was at the Belfast City Half Marathon last year when he crossed the line in 1.08.20 to claim second place.

City of Derry Spartan Declan Reid was the first runner from Derry to finish, coming in fourth.

Letterkenny AC Olympian Maria McCambridge, a previous winner of this race, won the ladies’ race.

Several hundred runners from Derry were among the 3,000 who lined up for the event, using it as a warm-up for June’s Walled City Marathon.
