Derry City fans are still waiting to see the new look Candystripes score a goal at Brandywell following this 0-0 draw with defending Airtricity Premier Division champions St Patrick’s Athletic.

In a game, in which a strong breeze made playing conditions difficult, St Pat’s were the better side throughout with home keeper Gerard Doherty pulling off several good saves to make it three draws from four games played so far for Roddy Collins’ side.

Derry almost won the game near the end when visiting keeper Clarke reacted brilliantly to deny Curran.

Doherty, returning to the Derry line-up after missing last week’s 1-1 draw at Drogheda, made several good saves in both halves to keep the home side on level terms.

He was brought into action in the 35tth when he stretched to save from ex-Derry midfielder Killian Brennan and was alert to save from Forrester in the 59th minute.

Derry’s Rory Patterson, the league’s top goalscorer last season, wasted the best chance of the came with ten minutes remaining when he blasted high over the bar from 15 yards.

Almost immediately, Fagan nearly scored what would have been a contender for goal of the season when his volley on the run screamed just wide.

Jarvis had a chance to clinch Derry’s first home win of the season but he put his header wide when found in a good position from a free into the penalty box.

In the dying seconds St Pat’s keeper Clarke brought off a brilliant save from Duffy who had been put through by Jarvis to deny Derry a much sought-after win.
