STRABANE NEWS…. STEWART WELCOMES SWIFT ACTION ON MOURNE RIVER WALK

mourneriverThe swift response taken by Strabane District Council to tackle the dangerous subsidence of the River Mourne walkway in the town has been applauded by Liam Stewart, SDLP election candidate.

The river walk way toward the Head of the Town had suffered considerable damage in recent months due to flooding and harsh winter weather conditions, causing erosion and subsidence of the banking making the entire pedestrian area dangerous for those walking or using the area.

Mr Stewart said he was pleased steps had been taken to make the walk way safe.

He said: I am pleased to see that several Gabion Baskets have been lined along the banking, re-enforcing the walkway and making it much safer for all using the area, especially in the dark evenings.

“A number of sections have been secured, but further examination is needed of other stretches which have been affected also.”

Mr Stewart concluded: “The walk way along the river requires further remedial attention, and I will be requesting that council act swiftly to tackle those concerns.”
