Marina Campbell.

Derry runner Marina Campbell is expected to be among to be a strong contender in the ladies’ category of the AES Larne Half Marathon.

The City of Derry Spartan showed her class throughout the Athletics NI Cross Country Series, with the highlight being an excellent third place finish at the McConnell Shield XC.

Since then, she has picked up a prize at the “Run in the Dark” in Belfast and also slashed her 10k personal best to 38:23 at the Seeley Cup.

The event, which features one of the North’s most scenic routes, is expected to attract up to 1,500 competitors.

The 13.1 mile route will take the  athletes around the town centre,  onto the Coast Road, where they will make their way towards Ballygally and a short inland section before making their way back along the Coast Road, finishing along the atmospheric promenade behind Larne Leisure Centre.
