This year’s Lark in the Park is to be bigger than ever with a stage being held in Donegal for the first time.

Organised by the Maiden City Motor Club (MCMC) the event, to be held in St Columb’s Park in Derry on Saturday, 26 April next, will give motorsport enthusiasts a chance to enjoy an action-packed day of rally cars in action and on display as well.

Speaking at the launch at Ebrington, event director, Declan McCay, revealed RiverRidge Recycling would be the title sponsor for the Lark In The Park.

He said, “It is just fantastic news that RiverRidge Recycling has come on board for ‘Lark In The Park.’

“They have been the primary sponsor for Maiden City Motor Club for the past two years and have been a major influence in making the Dogleap and Turkey Run rallies the success that they have become.

“I am really looking forward to working with them on their first venture in Derry city.”

Mr McCay also disclosed that there will be a massive increase in stage mileage for the this year’s event, with the addition of a Special Stage in Co.Donegal, after negotiations with Donegal Motor Club and MotorSport Ireland.

He said: “While we were delighted to get ‘Lark In The Park’ returned to the calendar in 2013 as part of City of Culture celebrations, it was always part of the plan to make it bigger and better.

““It was a great showcase rally last year but the organising team were very conscious that any rally confined solely to the park would always be very limited on stage mileage and that is not the best situation for competitors.

“I am delighted to be able to announce that in addition to the four stages in the Park, there will be an additional road stage close by in Donegal which will be run three times. This will give us a total stage mileage close to 25 miles.”

“The organising team has been very busy in recent weeks and plans are well advanced.

“I’d encourage everyone to get your entry in as soon as possible so as not be disappointed.”

The closing date for entries is Friday, 11 April with entry forms available shortly at www.maidencitymotorclub.com.

Mr McCay concluded: “The event is also open to the public so please come along and experience a right ‘Lark in the Park’ and all that motorsport has to offer – you’ll never have seen the like of it.”
