Derry schoolgirl Rachael O’Connor has sung her heart out and delivered the knockout blow to earn her place on the  “live shows” of the hugely popular television talent show “The Voice.”

The 17-year-old is one of three contestants pop princess Kylie Minogue chose from her seven-member “Team Kylie” to sing in the live quarter-finals.

The Limavady Grammar School pupil will now compete against 11 other contestants.

In tonight’s “knockouts” show broadcast on BBC One, the young Drumsurn singer, cheered on by her family in the audience, performed Paloma Faith’s “New York” to once again win over the Aussie pop star who she had impressed in the “blind” auditions.

Rachael said she chose the song as she wanted to show she was “versatile” and could sing “upbeat” songs.

Following her performance, fellow judge Ricky Wilson, from the Kaiser Chiefs, described Rachael as a “ready made pop star.”

The legend that is Tom Jones also said he would have chosen Rachael to be in his final three.

Following her selection, a tearful Rachael said: “Thank you so much for taking the chance.”

Kylie said her trio of contestant were “all talented and had so very much more to give.”
