Progress on a scheme that will see the development of allotment and walkways in the Hazelbank area of Derry have been welcomed by Sinn Féin Councillor Eric McGinley.

According to Cllr McGinley, Derry City Council has been working with the Ballymagroarty Hazelbank Community Partnership to put in place initiatives which will transform Marianus Glen into a “positive community space.”

Cllr McGinley added: “Plans have been developed for a number of allotments and walkways across the Glen and I welcome proposals for a community consultation to take place in the area on 26 March.

“It is important that local residents are made fully aware of the plans and I would encourage people to take the time to acquaint themselves with the project.”

Cllr McGinley concluded: “Marianus Glen has lain dormant for too long and has had a negative image in the area but it is to be hoped that we are now putting in place a development scheme which will provide a positive space for the local community.”
