renalnewA Derry school girl’s desire to thank a local hospital for the care given to her grandfather has resulted in the Renal Unit at Altnagelvin Hospital receiving a £300 donation.

To celebrate the 21st anniversary of Oakgrove Integrated College, staff and students participated in the “Great Oakgrove Bake off” to raise money for the Unit.

Jolene Dunne, a student at the college, suggested donating to the Unit in appreciation of the care and support her grandfather, the late William Doherty, received during his treatment there over a nine year period.

The photograph shows Jolene, fellow pupil Niamh Duddy and teaching assistant presenting the cheque to Renal Unit staff.

Included are Deborah Glowski, Renal Research Nurse; Donna O’Kane, Dialysis Co-ordinator; Aimee- Jayne Sayers, Western Trust Work Placement Student; Gill Crawford, Renal Unit Manager; Donna Pike, Staff Nurse;  and Maria O Kane, Staff Nurse.
