LISNEAL COLLEGE STREET LIGHTING ISSUES “NEARING COMPLETION” – MALCOLM

Longstanding issues surrounding the lack of street lighting on the approaches to Lisneal College in Derry are “nearing resolution,” according to UKIP (United Kingdom Independence Party) Waterside representative David Malcolm.davidmalcolm

Mr Malcolm said he had been given “assurances” the  Crescent Link road between Church Meadows and Sevenoaks was to be “fully lit.”

Mr Malcolm said: “I have been concerned by this issue for a long time. It is not safe for students to be walking to and from Lisneal College on dark winter mornings on an unlit road.

“In the past, it had been impossible to find a department who was willing to take responsibility for this issue and so when MCE Public Relations recently made a public presentation at the Brewers Fayre establishment regarding the new Crescent Link retail development, I made representations through them to the administrators of the site.

“I have now received email confirmation that remedial works have been identified and funding secured and it is only a matter of around 12 weeks now before the Crescent Link road between Church Meadows and Sevenoaks is fully lit.

“I am urging NIE to complete their scoping works in a timely fashion so that the work order can be issued by the administrators of the site and the re-energising of the lights can be completed.”

Mr Malcolm concluded: “This will not only benefit the students of Lisneal College but the residents of both Sevenoaks and Summer Meadows who use the road too. I am thankful to MCE Public Relations, and especially Mr Chris Brown for his help in finally resolving this longstanding issue.”

The administrators and their representatives are actively chasing NIE and exploring all avenues to speed up the process.’
