PAPAL NUNCIO TO PRESENT POPE JOHN PAUL II AWARDS AT DERRY CEREMONY

Archbishop Charles J Brown, Papal Nuncio to Ireland, will present the Pope John Paul II Awards at a ceremony to be held in Derry’s Millennium Forum on Tuesday next, 25 February.

The awards are presented to 16-18 year olds who have been actively involved their parishes and communities have a contributed  “in a positive way to the life of the Church.”

The Award was launched in the Derry Diocese by the Papal Nuncio to Ireland, His Excellency Most Rev Dr Giuseppe Lazzarotto in November 2006.

At the launch, Bishop of the Diocese Most Rev Seamus Hegarty pointed out “The purpose of this initiative is to enable young people to live their faith and to witness to that faith… in the parish community”

Once students enroll to take part in the gold, silver or bronze level they have up to one year to complete their chosen activities in the local parish and community.

Award ceremonies for the Derry city and Inishowen deaneries will take place at 5.00pm followed by the Co Derry and Co Tyrone deaneries at 7.30pm.
