Sinn Féin Councillor Mickey Cooper has appealed for an end illegal dumping in the laneways off the Northland Road on Derry’s cityside.DUMPING

Cllr Cooper was speaking after being contacted by residents in Argyle Street and Edenmore Street with complaints about rubbish being left in the laneways around their homes,

Cllr Cooper said as a result of the “demographics” of the area having changed over the last number of years with a lot of multiple occupancy houses and a large turnover in tenants, there appeared to be “a problem” with rubbish being left in the laneways around homes in Argyle Street and Edenmore Street.

He added: “Some of this is illegal dumping of rubbish as well as additional bags of rubbish being left out on bin collection days.”

Calling on landlords in the area to ensure they provided tenants with both the blue and black rubbish bins, Cllr Cooper also appealed to residentsnot leave out extra bags of rubbish on bin collection days.

He added: “If any resident has additional amounts of rubbish they need collected, an item of furniture or bulky items for disposal they should ring the City Council cleansing department to make arrangements for that to happen.”
