This is a photograph of a PSNI landrover on patrol – nothing amiss about that you might say – only there is some very wrong!PSNI-landrover-264x264

If you look closely you will see the heavy armoured vehicle is being driven around a roundabout in Lifford – in Co Donegal!

Locals stopped and watched in amazement as the landrover came across the bridge from Strabane, driven into the border town, around the roundabout before heading back  from where it came.

The picture was taken by a local resident around 11.00am this morning and a copy passed on to Donegal’s Chief Superintendent Terry McGinn.

Describing the incident as an “international incident” which could have had serious consquences, local Independent county councillor Frank McBrearty has called for a full investigation the incursion.

“This is an international incident and it has to be fully investigated.

“Innocent people could have been hurt if dissident republicans had got word of this incident and opened fire on this landrover.

“The PSNI is not permitted to cross into Donegal and members of An Garda Siochana are not permitted to travel into Co Tyrone.”

He concluded: “A full investigation must be carried out into what has happened here. This is a serious breach of the protocols which exist between our two police forces.”

“A police patrol inadvertently crossed the border into Lifford today for a short time,” the PSNI said in a statement.

“On realising his error the driver turned at the next available roundabout. Police have made An Garda Siochana aware of the incident”

In a statement, the PSNI said the patrol had “inadvertently” crossed the border into Lifford  “for a short time.”

“On realising his error the driver turned at the next available roundabout. Police have made An Garda Siochana aware of the incident”
