Intending Derry holidaymakers have been urged to ensure their Irish passports are up to date by local Sinn Fein Councillor Colly Kelly.

Cllr Colly Kelly: don’t delay passport applications.

Cllr Kelly said he was advising anyone thinking of going on holiday this summer not to delay applying for or renewing their passports.

Cllr Kelly said: “I would appeal to anyone from Derry planning to go away on holidays over the next few months to check that their passport is valid.

“Our constituency office each year would work on behalf of people from Derry who run into difficulties after they discovered that their passports were out of date.

“We will shortly be coming into the busiest time of the year for passport renewals and it can take several weeks to get passport issues resolved.

“People may have to end up going to Dublin with documentation to ensure that they get their passport in time to travel.”

Cllr Kelly concluded: “And there may be occasions that people will simply lose out on their holiday as there is no time to process the passport application.”
