Derry darts enthusiasts are to get the chance to take on the world’s greatest darts player when Phil “The Power” Taylor takes to the oche in the city later this month.

The 16-time world champion will stage an exhibition in the Guildhall on Saturday 22 February next.

Seventeen matches are to take place with matchplay tickets available at £60 including a “meet and greet” with Taylor as well as pre-match drinks.

Holders of general admission tickets will be included in a wildcard draw offering the chance to play the darts legend.

Tickets on sale from the Castle Bar, Masons Bar and The Bentley – telephone Kevin on 07922676488 or at the Castle Bar on 02871 365013.

The Guildhall’s doors open at 7.30pm with the first match at the oche at 8.00pm.

Taylor has won more than 200 professional tournaments, including 80 major titles and a record 16 World Championships

He has also won the PDC Player of the Year award six times – 2006, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012 – and was nominated for the highly prestigious BBC Sports Personality of the Year award in 2006 and 2010, finishing as runner-up in the latter.

He was the first, and to date, the only person to hit two nine dart finishes in one match, in the 2010 Premier League Darts final against James Wade.

He has hit a record nine televised nine-dart finishes.

Taylor played in competitions organised by the British Darts Organisation (BDO) until 1993.

However, amidst growing disenchantment with the BDO, he was among 16 top players who broke away to form their own organisation, the World Darts Council, now known as the Professional Darts Corporation (PDC).

He was given the nickname “The Power” by a Sky Sports production manager, Peter Judge, stepped on an empty CD case of Snap!’s “The Power.”
