NEW CHAIRPERSON AT DERRY PORT AND HARBOUR COMMISSIONERS

Bonnie Anley has been appointed the new chairperson of Derry Port and Harbour Commissioners.

Garvan O’Doherty, outgoing chairperson.

She succeeds prominent local businessman Garvan O’Doherty who held the post for eight years.

She will take up the four-year post on 8 February next and will receive an annual remuneration of £23,292.

Ms Anley stood as a candidate for local government for the Green Party in the Newry and Mourne district in May 2011.

She has commercial and financial experience which spans the transport, agriculture, tourism, marketing and environmental sectors and has spent 18 years working in the shipping industry at Warrenpoint Port.

She was managing director of a port agency company, Anley Maritime Agencies, from 1992 – 2010, director of a Roll on Roll off ferry operation Seatruck Ferries Ltd, Warrenpoint (1992 – 2010) and a board member of Warrenpoint Harbour Authority (2006 -2012).

Announcing the appointment, Regional Development Minister Danny Kennedy said he was Ms Anley would add “tremendous value” to the work of the Commissioners in the the years ahead.

He added: “Foyle Port is a key player in the local economy and I am sure that the new chair will maximise the potential of the port as a driver of growth and prosperity.”

The Minister also paid tribute to the outgoing chairperson, Garvan O’Doherty.

Mr Kennedy said: “I would also like to thank Garvan for the valuable contribution he has made to Foyle Port during his eight year tenure as chair.”
