Vandals who set fire to road safety signs in the Bogside area of Derry have been slammed.

Cllr Colly Kelly said those responsible were putting the lives of the public and workers employed on road improvement works in the area at risk.

The Sinn Fein representative said: “Currently there is an upgrade of street lights in the Westland Street area and we have just seen the finishing of an improvement scheme at Blucher Street and Lisfannon Park. At the weekend someone set fire to a number of road safety signs and other materials.”

Cllr Kelly concluded: “I would appeal to however is behind this carry-on to stop. We do not want to see anything that could put members of the public or workers at risk or ultimately hold up this vital work.”
