Sinn Féin MLA Michaela Boyle has received confirmation from DCAL (Department of Culture, Arts and Leisure) Minister Caral Ní Chuilín that a DCAL office being set up in Derry to oversee culture, arts and leisure activity would include the town.

Mrs Boyle said: “I am delighted that the minister has assured us that she is determined to expand the legacy of the City of Culture across the North West, which includes Strabane.

“The Minister has informed me that DCAL are having meetings with key stakeholders in the community. They are also looking at opportunities for roadshows and information and consultation events and has asked that Strabane in particular be one of the first areas visited in order to make links with the people there and to ascertain their opinions.”

Mrs Boyle concluded: “It is important to recognise that the legacy of the City of Culture has been tremendous. However, we need to make sure that that is not just located in one geographical area.”
