Derry’s employers have been urged to find out what help is on offer to them through the Department of Employment and Learning Department’s (DELD) Skills Solutions Service.seagate

The service provides employers with access to the Department’s learning and skills service to identify and help meet the training needs of businesses and offers a single point of contact for employers to access information on the most appropriate solutions available, understand how different programmes could help their business and workforce skills and training development needs.

Speaking during a visit to Derry, DELD Minister Dr Stephen Farry urged employers what the service could offer them.

The Minister said: “My Department’s Skills Solutions Service will help employers understand and access the training provision which is available and is crucial to growing the skills which modern business needs.

“Well trained and knowledgeable Skills Solutions advisers are available to meet with any employer on a one to one basis anywhere in Northern Ireland.

“I want to take this opportunity therefore to encourage employers to contact my Department and find out what support, both financial and non financial, is available to help them develop the skills of their workforce.

“

The Minister was speaking during a visit to Seagate Technology and Hunter Apparel Solutions.

He added: “I welcome this opportunity to engage with two successful companies from the North West and discuss future opportunities and topics of mutual interest.

“It is important that I and my Department avail of opportunities to meet with businesses face to face to discuss skills and training development needs.

“I am committed to ensuring that our economy and employers are provided with the skilled workers that they need, addressing skills shortages and skills mismatches, bringing people closer to the labour market, and increasing economic participation.”

Dr Farry concluded: “It is encouraging that both companies are already working with my Department, most notably the Skills Solutions Service to access relevant and tailored training. Skills Solutions is a proactive service to local industry which can help identify and source solutions to training needs and provide information on how my Department can help them.”
