Members of the public have been asked to attend the Accident and Emergency Department at Altnagelvin Hospital only “if absolutely necessary.”A&Ealtnaelvinae

The hospital’s management issued the appeal after five people were admitted to its casualty department following a serious road accident near Strabane this morning.

There are unconfirmed reports two people died in the collision which occurred around 11.00am on the Melmount Road, the main road between Sion Mills and Victoria Bridge.

The main Derry to Omagh road is closed and diversions are in operation with police advising motorists to avoid the area.

This morning’s collision is the second serious road crash in the area within five days. Last Friday, the 65-year-old driver of a Jaguar car died in a three vehicle collision involving a Audi 4 and a Range Rover.
