Hundreds of mourners have attended the funeral of the two sisters who died in a house fire in Letterkenny.

Jody and Anngeline Brogan.

Jody (27) and Anngeline (28) Brogan died in a blaze which broke out at their Ceannan View home in the Mountain Top area of the town at around 11.00am on Friday last.

Both were young parents – Jody a mother of three and Anngeline a mum of one.

A man, who was in the house at the time, was able to escape the inferno to raise the alarm. He was not injured.

Donegal Fire Service officials believe the blaze began in the downstairs living room of the house before spreading to the bedroom immediately upstairs the two sisters slept.

The fire is believed have started accidentally.

This morning, hundreds joined the girls’  parents and their six brothers and sisters at the removal of  their remains from their mother’s home at Lisnenan, Letterkenny for 12.00 noon Requiem Mass in St Columba’s Church, Drumoghill.

There were heartbreaking scenes as the two sisters were laid to rest together in the adjoining cemetery immediately afterwards.

Speaking during Requiem Mass parish priest Fr Brian Quinn said the tragic sisters should be remembered as “people who made a difference.”

He added: “Remember them not in the absolute hell of the housefire in Ceannan View but as they are now in heaven in peace and joy.”
