The man was the driver of a a red  Jaguar car involved in a collision with a black Range Rover and a silver  Audi A4.

The collision occurred shortly after 4.30pm yesterday on the main A5 Mulvin Road between Newtownstewart and Victoria Bridge, about one mile Milltown.

Three other people, two men and a woman, were taken to hospital for treatment for their injuries that are not believed to be life threatening.

Police have appealed to anyone who witnessed the collision or anyone who was travelling on the Mulvin Road around the time of the collision to contact them at the Collision Investigation Unit at Steeple Police Station on 0845 600 8000.

Patrick Leonard, SDLP candidate in the Sperrin ward in the upcoming local government election, said he was “saddened” by the news.

He said: “This is a sad and tragic start to a new year for all those affected by this crash. This is yet another death on the A5 road.

“My party and I will continue fighting for the upgrade of this road to save innocent lives and prevent further carnage on this dangerous road.”

Mr Leonard concluded: “My thoughts and prayers are with the families of all those involved.”
