Roddy Collins has been handed a tough task in his first league game in charge of Derry City.

The opening game in the 2014 Airtricity Premiership sees the Dubliner return to his former club Shamrock Rovers.

The game, to be played at Tallaght on Friday 7 March, will kick-off at 8.00pm.

Elsewhere on the opening day, champions St Patrick’s Athletic will begin the defence of their title with an away trip to Cork City while last season’s runners-up Dundalk, managed by former Derry City boss Stephen Kenny, will travel the short distance to take on near neighbours Drogheda United who have reverted the name of their home ground back to United Park.

Athlone Town, who were guided back to the top flight last season by new Derry boss Roddy Collins after 18 consecutive seasons in the First Division, travel to take on FAI Cup holders Sligo Rovers while UCD take on Bohemians in a Dublin derby and Limerick play host to Bray Wanderers.

The first round of the EA Sports Cup will take place on Monday 10 March with the second round on 5 and 6 May with the quarter-finals on May 26 and 27. The semi-finals are scheduled for 5 August with the final on 20 September.

The second round of the FAI Ford Cup is scheduled for the weekend of 8 June with the third round on 24 August and the quarter-finals on 14 September. The semi-finals will take place on the weekend of 5 October with the final at the Aviva Stadium on Sunday 2 November.

The mid-season break will take place from 14 – 26 June inclusive. The Premier Division season will conclude on Friday 24  October.

The Premier Division fixtures, which were issued  today, are subject to change depending on the outcome of the FAI Club Licensing process.

The fixtures for the 2014 Airtricity League First Division will be issued in January.
