Sinn Fein Cllr Elisha McCallion.

Elisha McCallion, Sinn Fein councillor for the area, has welcomed the news from DRD Road Service that the work will be carried out as part of a wider an ongoing programme by Road Service which has seen several developments in Galliagh receive an improvement in their lighting.

Councillor McCallion said the announcement was “positive news” and she said she hoped to hear further announcements in the coming weeks.

She added: “Effective street lighting is paramount for motorists and pedestrians alike. These new lights will minimise the risk of accidents due to poor vision and it is a scheme which I hope to see rolled out throughout the Galliagh area.”

Ms McCallion said she and her  party would do everything in their power to ensure the safety of those using public roads in the Galliagh area.

She concluded: “I would also advise those in the run up to Christmas to be extra vigilant in their driving with the onset of the winter weather.”
