Derry actress Roma Downey has been left devastated by the death of her pet dog.

Roma, who lives in America with husband Mark Burnett, said their “beloved” Irish Wolfhound Finn McCool was “the best dog ever.”

She said: “We are heartbroken to lose him but know he will wait for us by Heaven’s door.”

On a happier note, Roma and her husband – the team behind the History Channel’s “The Bible” – are to make a mini-series for CBS.

“The Dovekeepers” will be based on the historical novel by Alice Hoffman which tells the story of four women whose lives intertwine when Roman armies fought fugitive Jews during the siege of Masada in 70 CE.

The project, the first to be produced under a new CBS mini series initiative, is aiming for a 2015 premiere.

Meanwhile “The Bible,”  which earned the husband and wife production team two Emmy Award nominations and was shortlisted for a prestigious People’s Choice Award., is to hit the big screen early next year.

The cinema release of “Son of God” has been agreed with 20th Century Fox for February.

The film will feature sections of the original series of “The Bible”- in which Roma stars as Mary the Mother of God and which took four years to make – along with previously unseen scenes and extra footage.
