The Cathedral Youth Club has been allocated £5,117 to create a Street Museum at the group’s headquarters which will exhibit old images related to The Fountain.

Announcing the funding Minister McCausland said: “The Street Museum will provide the local community and the town’s many tourists with an insight into the history of the Fountain area.

“The funding will also be used to improve the appearance of a number of nearby derelict buildings at the entrance to the Fountain Housing Estate to improve the general appearance of the estate and create a sense of pride in the area.”

The Cathedral Youth Club’s core project “Investing in Young People, Families and the Community” has been allocated £6,696, which will be used update the computer suite with the latest IT equipment for the use of all the community.

Minister McCausland added: “These facilities will enable Fountain Estate residents to gain computing skills, knowledge and experience which will lead to enhanced employment opportunities.

“This funding is an example of my Department listening and responding to the specific needs of the communities its supports, in a positive and innovative way.”

Jeanette Warke, manager of the Cathedral Youth Club welcomed the funding.

She said: “Cathedral Youth Club also welcomed the funding to update the current computer suite so that both staff, training participants and young people can continue to utilise the opportunities gained with access to such IT in a safe and comfortable environment. It would further allow CYC to closely monitor usage by young people and monitor their current support programmes.

She concluded: “Most importantly, the suite will enable young people to complete homework tasks and learn online services when searching for jobs and continue to learn about the importance of Information Technology in this newly named ‘Digital Age’.”
