Derry City Council is encouraging regular users of its leisure provision to have their say on the future redevelopment of Templemore Sports Complex.

User groups are being invited to attend a number of consultation events on tomorrow and Wednesday to help the Council collate views and opinions to help define future sporting and leisure needs for the area.

Encouraging user groups to engage in the process, Barry O’Hagan, head of Culture Leisure and Community Services with Derry City Council, said the Council valued the views of staff, users and the general public.

He said: “The purpose of this consultation is to collect information on the most important needs and requirements of the patrons of Templemore that must facilitated as part of the redevelopment. Derry City Council is committed to engaging with stakeholders and this consultation is a unique opportunity for everyone to give their opinions.”

Mr O’Hagan said the redevelopment of Templemore Sports Complex was a “key” development project of Derry City Council.

He added: “The Council is committed to creating a top class facility which is used by people across the City of Derry and beyond.

“We have invited members of the project team to host a series of Drop-In Clinics at Templemore Sports Complex and Lisnagelvin Leisure Centre on the Complex on Tuesday 10 and Wednesday 11 December in an effort to gauge as much public opinion as possible.

“The responses received from this consultation process will inform the preparation of development proposals for the site. Our ambition for a future Templemore is as a major visitor attraction for the city and region.”

Mr O’Hagan added additional consultation opportunities would be established in January for local residents and the general public. Details of which will be made public after Christmas.

User groups looking to attend the Drop-In clinics are encouraged to contact Templemore Sports Complex directly to book a time slot.

The consultation process is expected to conclude in January and a report to be presented to members of Derry City Council’s Development Committee for review and consideration.
