Derry Sinn Féin housing spokesperson Councillor Tony Hassan has challenged Environment Minister Mark H Durkan to a public debate on plans for the H2 site on the Buncrana Road on the outskirts of the city.

Councillor Hassan said he was “astounded” to read the Minister’s reply in the local press to his campaign questioning why there had been little movement on plans for the massive H2 site on the Buncrana Road for over 10 years now.

Cllr Hassan added: “Mark is from this city and sat on Derry City Council for a number of years so he is well aware of the potential of the H2 site and the logjam there. We can all say we are committed to something but what people want to see is diggers on the site and houses being constructed.”

Cllr Hassan concluded: “I think the fact that here we are, over a decade later and not a brick has been laid tells its own story. If the Minister if up for a public debate, then the people of Derry will be demanding answers.”
