Saturday 21 December has been confirmed as the date of the annual North West Cross Country meeting in Gransha, Derry.keith

In addition to the usual Open 6k race, there will also be races for under-12s, under-14s and under-16s to complete an attractive race programme organised by City of Derry Spartans.

The age group races are expected to attract big interest from local schools in advance of the January 2014 District Schools Championships, while the Open 6k will double as an Athletics NI Winter League scoring race and also a NIMAA scoring event.

Competitors in the junior events will all have to be under the stated age on race day, while the Open race will incorporate award categories for under-18s, under-20s, seniors and Masters.

The programme starts at 11.45am with the combined boys/girls under-12 1k and will conclude with the Open 6k, which has a 12.30pm start time.

The under-14s will race over 2k and the under-16s will tackle 3k.  There is an £1 (2euro) entry fee for the under-12s, under-14s and under-16s, with all finishers getting a commerative ribboned medal.

The Open race has a £6 (7euro) entry fee with awards for the first three across the line and to all age category winners, male and female.

There is also a “four to score” women’s team race and a men’s “six to score” race, so serious competition across the board is anticipated.

Entries will be accepted on the day at race headquarters in the U3A Foyle Building in Gransha Park but online entry is now available at: [email protected] – email name, club, date of birth and age on race day to the address and  pick up race pack and pay the entry fee from 10.00am at U3A Foyle Building on race day.
