Santa, who is due in Derry tonight to switch on the city’s Christmas lights, has had his post box set up in Guildhall Square to receive children’s wish lists.santapostbox

Due to Santa’s busy schedule at this time of year, he designated the responsibility of placing the box under the Square’s Christmas tree with the city’s Mayor, Cllr Martin Reilly.

Mayor Reilly said Santa had guaranteed him all letters posted in the box would be delivered directly to him at the North Pole and he would personally respond to each letter received, providing they were posted no later than 19 December.

Cllr Reilly said Santa told him he would collect letters from the box after tonight’s switch on at Ebrington Square before heading north to prepare for the “big day.”

First to post her letter was Elle Henderson (6) from Miss Mary Hill School of Ballet.

She is pictured posting her wish list with the help of Mayor Reilly and one of Santa’s elves, Sorcha Shanahan,SA from Love the Concept.

Meanwhile, festive excitement is building as the city prepares for tonight’s switch on the Christmas illuminations and Festival of Trees.

Timmys’ Toy Trail continues until Sunday with the eagerly awaiting Lumiere lighting up next weekend.

The ever-popular Christmas Market returns from 10-21 December while the Legenderry On Ice rink will set up at Ebrington Square from 10 December to 18 January.
