STRABANE NEWS: EMMERDALE HUNK TO TURN ON TOWN’S CHRISTMAS LIGHTS

TV hunk Matthew Wolfenden – better known as Emmerdale’s David Metcalfe – will be in Strabane this Saturday to help Santa switch on the town’s Christmas illuminations at 5.00pm.

The big switch-on will prove to be an extra special occasion as Strabane Town Council has secured match funding from Department of Social Development (DSD) to make Strabane’s lights bigger, brighter and better than ever before.

As part of the festivities, local radio statiion Q102 will broadcast live from the town centre with local band “The Brambles.” starring Terri O’Reilly from The Voice of Ireland and Conor Scott from The Voice UK.

Street entertainment will include stilt walkers, balloon modellers, face painters and the traditional mummers to entertain the crowds.

Throughout the day there will be lots to do with the Food and Craft market showcasing local crafters at the Alley Theatre Courtyard.

The town centre entertainment will include local community involvement with the town’s brass band Strabane Concert Brass and Class Act Drama Academy adding to the afternoon’s fun.

Joining them will be Sing Out Loud Riverine Choir and Percussion Group and many other street performers to entertain the crowds.

The highlight of the day will be when Santa Claus will be travel into the town at 4.00pm in his unique transport escorted by his little helpers and fun characters for the 5.00pm switch on in Abercorn Square.

Traffic will be restricted around Abercorn Square to Railway Road area and Castle Street from 2.00pm – 5.30pm. A short delay can be expected in Market Street and Abercorn Square during Santa’s procession.
