CITY OF DERRY’S CAMPBELL TAKES FIRST PLACE IN “RUN IN THE DARK”

City of Derry Spartan Marina Campbell continued  an impressive week by winning the women’s “Run in the Dark” 5k held yesterday in the grounds of the Stormont Eatate in Belfast.

The fast improving Derry girl, who claimed a podium finish at the McConnell Cross Country last weekend, led the ladies home in 19.59.

Unattached athlete Lynn Lyness followed in 20.38 with  North Down AC’s Ange Perrott third in 21.05.

In the men’s 5k, City of Derry’s Mark Mullan, a sub three hour finisher at the Walled City Marathon in June last, crossed the line in third place in a time of 18.20. North Down AC’s Dennis Scott with a time of 17.43 with and James Trainor (unattached) second in 18.01.

Over 1,500 runners turn out for the event which also featured 10k races for both men and women.

The “Run in the Dark” is an annual charity event, organised to raise funds for the Mark Pollock Trust.  Races also took place in Dublin, Cork, Manchester and London.
