Derry to clash with Monaghan in next year’s Dr McKenna Cup.

Derry have also be drawn to play Fermanagh and UCB in Section B.

The standout match in the group sections of the competition is the clash between the 2012 All-Ireland champions Donegal and former Ulster kingpins Tyrone.

Donegal have had the upper hand in recent matches against Tyrone defeating them in the Ulster championship for the last three years in a row.

However, Tyrone have dominated the McKenna Cup over the last ten years winning it on several occasions.

The full draw is as follows:

Section A – QUB, Donegal, Tyrone, Armagh

Section B – St Mary’s UCB, Fermanagh, Monaghan, Derry,

Section C – UUJ, Down, Antrim, Cavan

The competition fixtures will be finalised at a meeting of Comhairle Uladh CCC on Thursday, 21 November NEXT with first round games taking place on Sunday, 5 January, second round matches on Sunday, 12 January and the third round clashes on Wednesday, 15 January.

The winners of Section A will meet their Section B counterparts in the semi finals. The winners of Section C will take on the best runners up in the other semi

The semi finals will take place on Sunday, 19 January 19 with the final scheduled for Saturday, 25 January.

Sunday games will have a 2.00pm throw-in while midweek matches will commence at 7.30pm.

The Ulster GAA will once again be selling a limited number of competition tickets for next year’s competition which will permit fans access to all three group games involving their team, both semi finals and the final – for just £20/€25 – a potential saving of over 60%!

The Ulster GAA also confirmed Ulster inter-provincial Joe Kernan will serve as a mediator for any player disputes in the competition.
