The Coshquin Road in Derry, which was earlier sealed off due to a policing operation, has reopened.

Sealed off: Whitehouse Road

However, the Whitehouse Road and Groarty Road remained sealed off as the police operation continues in the area.

A PSNI spokesperson said police were conducting a search of the area following a report of suspicious activity.

Bomb disposal experts remain at the scene.

Earlier, the main Derry to Buncrana Road was re-opened after it was closed during the morning rush hour.

The main thoroughfare had been closed from Skeoge Road and Templemore Sports Complex.

Last week police warned members of the public in the Whitehouse Road area  to be vigilant and to report any suspicious objects to police.

At the time, a police spokesperson revealed a thorough search had carried out following information that suggested there may be something suspicious in the area.

The spokesperson said officers went door to door talking to local residents and while nothing was found police asked should someone come across a suspicious object they do not touch it and contact police immediately
