Child (real name Jim Grant) – famed worldwide for his Jack Reacher collection –  will taking part in a question and answer session in First Derry Presbyterian Church in Magazine Street from 8.00pm this evening along with local author Brian McGilloway.

Tickets, priced at £5 can be purchased at the door

The event is being staged as part of the Killer Book Crime Festival which has attracted leading crime writers from throughout Britain and beyond.

Speaking ahead of the Q&A session he said he was ready whatever comes his way in the way of questions.

He added: “I am very familiar with the level of interest the Irish can take in someone so I know I may get asked about absolutely anything.”

Child is no stranger to Derry as he has visited the city as a teenager.

He revealed: “My father is from Belfast and his sister, my aunt, married a man from Derry and I still have cousins there.”

“I haven’t been there since I was a teenager, although I have been back to Belfast a few times and I really like it. It is a fine European city now.

“I am ready for whatever comes my way in the way of questions. I am very familiar with the level of interest the Irish can take in someone so I know I may get asked about absolutely anything,” he said.
