Frylite is to create 19 new jobs in Strabane as part of a £2 million investment by Invest NI.
Frylite supplies, collects and recycles cooking oils for a range of foodservice customers in the UK, Republic of Ireland and Europe.
The company has invested almost £2 million in a new waste oil treatment plant, the development of new washing and drying technology and enhanced marketing activities.
Eamon McCay, Frylite managing director, said the “very substantial expansion” project would enable the company to consolidate its position as the market leader in the supply of fresh oils in Northern Ireland and the Republic, as well as help accelerate its growth in the collection and recycling of waste oils.
He added: “The investment in waste oil processing enables us to meet new international sustainability and carbon certification requirements and to offer our customers services that help them to do so.
‘It will strengthen our competitive edge and enable us to develop new business opportunities that we’ve identified in Great Britain and other parts of Europe for our waste oil services.”
Jeremy Fitch, executive director of Business and Sector Development, Invest NI said: “This is an important strategic investment by Frylite, which is currently celebrating the 25th anniversary of its establishment. The additional employment, R&D activities and marketing supported by Invest NI, will help Frylite to achieve faster growth and improve its productivity.”
He added: “In particular, the investment in new technology will make a significant contribution to improving the efficiency and cost-effectiveness of both its waste oil recycling facility and fresh oil supply operation.”
The design and manufacture of a new automated washing and drying system has been supported with R&D assistance from Invest NI which was part funded by the European Regional Development Fund and assisted by Queen’s University experts. The new employment is being supported by Invest NI’s Jobs Fund. Eleven of the new posts are already in place.
