Mr McCartney said the announcement by DCAL Minister Carál Ní Chuilínmeans meant the redevelopment of the entire Foyle Valley/Brandywell “Masterplan” has now been unlocked – in conjunction with Council funding of £2.8million.

He added: “This is just the latest sign of the strong commitment that DCAL Minister Carál Ní Chuilín and Sinn Féin have to targeting regional inequalities and deprivation.

“It will have a massive impact in terms of promoting social inclusion, tackling health and social inequalities, building sporting excellence and maximising participation.

“Other Ministries and parties could take a lead from Carál in delivering meaningful and effective resources to sectors and areas of greatest need.”

Mr McCartney said he looked to seeing the project being delivered for the people of Derry and working wi and the other Sinn Féin Ministers in showing the way forward in tackling inequality and regional disparities.”
