PATRICK’S FAMILY OVERWHELMED BY DERRY’S GENEROSITY

The family of Patrick Friel Curran, the popular young Derry man who died in America on Tuesday last, have thanked all those who raised funds to help bring him home.

Numerous fundraising events have been taking place since the 23-year-old passed away unexpectedly in a New York Hospital. He had been admitted the previous Sunday with back pain but suffered multiple organ failure.

Patrick’s remains returned to Derry yesterday and are resting at the family home in The Branch.

In an amazing show of generosity, the people of Derry have been fundraising  to pay for Patrick’s return home. The amount required has now been raised and Patrick’s family wish those continuing to fundraise to donate their efforts to a charity of their choice in Patrick’s memory.

Patrick’s brother, Damian, said the family had been “touched” and “overwhelmed” by the generosity shown to them.

He said: “I want to thank you all from the bottom of my heart on behalf of the family, we’re all so touched and I’ll never forget the generosity of everyone from offering hard earned money to kind words of support.

“At this stage we have received more than enough to pay for Patrick’s flight home and I’m personally so overwhelmed by the support, as is the entire family. I wish I could personally hug each individual person and business who have been carrying us in this difficult time. I’ll never forget it.

“Could I ask anyone else who kindly wishes to donate to please donate to a worthy cause close to your heart as Paddy would have wanted.”

Patrick’s remains will leave the family home at 10.15 am tomorrow for Requiem Mass at 11.00am in the nearby Holy Family Church, Ballymagroarty. He will be laid to rest immediately afterwards in the City Cemetery.
