The Book of Condolence set up in Derry’s Guildhall following the death of Seamus Heaney will close this Friday.

SEAMUS HEANEY

Poet Seamus Heaney

Several thousand have signed the book which was opened by the city’s Mayor following the death of the Nobel Laureate on August 30 last.

Thanking those who have paid tributes, the Mayor said arrangements were being put into place to have the Book of Condolence forwarded to Heaney family.

He said: “The hundreds of people who took the time to come into the Guildhall and convey their sympathies at the death of Seamus Heaney shows the depth of feeling people have for him.

“We are extending the opening of the Book of Condolence until next Friday to allow anyone who hasn’t already signed the book to do so,” he added.
