Five members of the cast will spend the next five days filming scenes for the series, which is produced by Lime Pictures.

Filming is being funded by Arts Council NI through Northern Ireland Screen and throughout this week members of the cast and crew will be filming at prominent, recognisable landmarks in the city.

Shona McCarthy, chief executive of Culture Company 2103, said having Hollyoaks in town would provide a “great platform” for showing the city to a new young audience.

She added: “The city is looking so fantastic at the minute I’m sure it’s going to shine like a real star of the show when the storyline airs on Channel 4 later this autumn.”

A spokesperson for Lime Pictures said Hollyoaks was known for its exciting storylines that often took viewers “outside of the village” and they were looking forward to “shooting” in Derry.
