Race 2: Day 13 – The Derry “LondonDerry” Doire remains in first place in Race 2 of the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race despite the “frustrating” Doldrums conditions beginning to kick in.newtrailer

Derry skipper Sean McCarter said they were travelling at 3.2 knots as they experience “almost no wind” and a  “lazy” Atlantic swell.

The Derry crew has just over 2,300 miles remaining to the finish line of Race 2. The 5,000 mile crossing of the Atlantic from Brest in France to Rio de Janeiro in Brazil is expected to finish at the start of next month.

Looking back at the past 24 hours, he said: “We’ve had a frustrating day of windless holes interspersed with windless rain clouds.

“We’ve tried numerous sail combinations but nothing seems to work for long in the ever changing breeze or lack of.”
