The 2020 Olympic Games are to be held in Tokyo – 49 years after they last hosted the “biggest sports party” in the world.
In a dramatic night in Buenos Aires, Argentina, the International Olympic Committee confirmed at 9.20pm (Irish time) what many people regarded as “the safest bet” was to host the Games.
Just like when it was announced London was to host the 2112 Games, there wild celebrations in Tokyo which last hosted the international event in 1962.
The city saw off the challenge of Turkey who surprisingly got in the final two after the Spanish capital.
Before that, of course, the Brazilian city of Rio is to host the 2016 Games.
