The winners will be announced in Gwyn’s Pavillion Café, Brooke Park on Wed Jan 23 at 6pm where some of the best submissions will be displayed

THE wait is almost over for over 100 entrants in Derry City and Strabane District Council’s Park Life Competition.

The winners will be announced at an event in Gwyn’s Pavillion Café in Brooke Park next Wednesday, January 23rd at 6 pm.

The competition, sponsored by city based photo printing business PhotoChute, invited budding photographers to submit their most creative images of local park areas.

Two prize winners will be announced on the night with the Adult and Junior Photographer of the Year each receiving £250 in photography equipment courtesy of PhotoChute.

The best entrants will also have their work displayed in the café, featuring captivating scenes from parks across the City and District.

Mayor of Derry City and Strabane District Council, Councillor John Boyle said judges were particularly impressed with the volume and standard of entries for the ‘Park Life’ initiative.

“We have been overwhelmed by the extremely high standard of submissions to this competition from adults and children living in our District,” he said.

“The entries have been scored by a judging panel and we are looking forward to exhibiting the shortlisted photos and announcing the winners in Brooke Park.

“We are so fortunate to have such quality parks and green spaces in our communities and hope that this competition will inspire more people to use these areas and capture these moments on camera.”

Parks Development Manager with Derry City and Strabane District Council, Colin Kennedy added:

“The entries to the ‘Park Life’ competition really showcase the natural beauty and facilities that exist across our Council area and show some particularly imaginative and alternative views of our parks and green spaces.

“Parks are social places, they’re a meeting point for friends, a haven for wildlife and a place we go to reflect or exercise.

“We hope this competition has encouraged local people to tell their own story of Park Life through the lens and will inspire others to do the same.”
