SINN Féin’s Elisha McCallion has urged the public to utilise the online electoral registration system which has finally went live after years of campaigning.
She said: “I very much welcome the fact that voters in the North can now register online.
“Sinn Féin have been intensively lobbying for an end to the delay in rolling out the online registration system here.
“It was introduced in Britain in 2014 and it should not have taken so long to introduce it here, particularly given the many thousands of people who have been taken of the electoral register in the North of Ireland.
“Online registration will help to begin redressing that democratic deficit and I would urge everyone to use the system to ensure you are registered and able to exercise your hard-won right to vote.
“The service is available at www.gov.uk/register-to-vote and the process should take under five minutes,” added the former Mayor of Derry.Tags:
