SINN Féin MEP Martina Anderson has said Brexit will mean people in the north will have to continue paying mobile phone roaming charges.
Martina Anderson said: “In Strasbourg this week Sinn Féin MEPs backed a deal which means that roaming charges will be abolished throughout the EU so that people can call, text and use data just as they would at home.
“Not only would this be welcome for those travelling throughout Europe but also for those in border areas who face these unfair charges regularly.
“But the British government’s Brexit agenda means that people in the north won’t be able to avail of this deal if they are successful in dragging us out of the EU against our will.
“It is yet another example of the cost of Brexit to everyone in the community.
“It also highlights the need for the north to secure designated special status within the EU and for the Irish government to stand up and act in the interests of all Irish citizens.”
