THE Electoral Office says there has been a high turnout in both the Foyle and East Derry constituencies.
Counting got underway at 8 am this morning in both constituencies at the count centre Foyle Arena in Derry.
In Foyle, the turnout was 65% of the electorate.
A total of 69,718 people were eligible to vote in Foyle.
Of these, 45,317 people voted.
In East Derry, the turnout yesterday was 62%.
A total of 67,392 were eligible to vote in East Derry.
Of these, 42,248 people voted.
This was a significantly higher turnout than last year’s Assembly election.
Many see the high turn out as a vote of anger from the public at how Stormont was being run by Sinn Fein and the DUP.
