SINN Féin’s Michelle O’Neill has said the DUP and their British Tory allies cannot be allowed to drag the north out of the EU against the wishes of the people.
Launching Sinn Féin’s ‘The Case for the North to achieve dedicated special status within the EU’ document , Ms O’Neill said:
“Brexit is not just an issue for the north. It will be a disaster for our economy north and south.
“Jobs are at risk, investment is under threat and our agricultural community faces new tariffs and an end to crucial subsidies.
“It is regrettable that the DUP have chosen to stand with the Tory Party against the cross-community majority who voted to remain.
“In their arrogance, they have dismissed the voice of the people and the needs of our economy as ‘remoaners’.
“This is an insult to all who voted to remain.
“The Dublin Government will be at the Brexit negotiating table as an EU member state, they will have a veto on whatever emerges on the far side of those negotiations.
“They must use that position and the power of that veto to act in the best interests of all Irish citizens.”
