TRIBUTES have poured in to a former Derry City Ladies footballer who has died at the age of 24.
Bronagh McMenamin, from the Waterside area of the city, died in hospital on Tuesday following a battle with Cystic Fibrosis.
Her parents William and Margaret and brother Aaron had maintained a bedside vigil for the young woman after her health deteriorated last month.
Friends had also asked for those close to her to change their profile picture and post messages of support for her while she was unwell.
The former North West Regional College student had played for Derry City Ladies football club for several years despite her fight with the genetic condition, which affects the lungs and digestive system.
On Wednesday, they paid tribute to Bronagh in a post on Facebook.
They said: “Derry City Ladies would like to pass on our sympathy and condolences to the family of former player Bronagh McMenamin who sadly passed away today.
“Bronagh played for the ‘Candystripes’ for several years and her determination and strength in her battle with illness is an inspiration to us all at the club.
“May she rest in peace.”
Friends have also taken to social media to remember Bronagh.
One friend said: “Really struggling to write this I can’t believe you’ve been taken from us.
“I will always love you B more than you’ll ever know. You were an inspiration to me and the rest of your friends and family and always will be. I’ll never forget you.”
