SINN Féin Councillor Kevin Campbell has welcomed the news that a heating replacement scheme which was to begin last September but was put back by Housing Executive is now set to go ahead.
He said: ““I am delighted to hear that the heating replacement scheme which was promised to over 140 homes in the city has now been given the green light and will begin at the end of February.
“When the Housing Executive announced the news last September that the scheme was to be put back, there was a lot of anger among residents.
“People had run down their oil tanks in anticipation of gas being installed only to be told that because of financial constraints the scheme was put on hold.
“The residents who were already on tight budgets had to go and find the extra money to fill their oil tanks”
“At that time Maeve Mc Laughlin MLA and I did have a meeting with senior management of Housing Executive to press upon them the importance of delivering on this scheme.
“I am happy to say that the scheme will proceed and these residents will receive letters shortly from Housing Executive outlining the details,” added Cllr Campbell.
