Harkin: Kneecap terror charge is complete hypocrisy

People Before Profit Councillor Shaun Harkin has said the decision by the Metropolitan police to charge a member of the group Kneecap with a terrorism offence is “complete hypocrisy”.

Said Cllr Harkin: “The British government’s terror charge against Kneecap band member, Liam Óg Ó hAnnaidh, is complete hypocrisy.

“When the British Army murdered unarmed Civil Rights marchers in Derry on January 30th 1972, the British government told the world they had killed terrorists. They were lying.

“Now, the British government is fully complicit with Israel’s barbarism in Gaza, and they are claiming Mo Chara and the movement opposed to genocide, opposed to war crimes and opposed to the organised starvation of millions of Palestinians, support terrorism. They are lying.

“Starmer and the British government cannot hide their support for Israel’s war against Palestinians and humanity.

“They cannot hide the truth. They cannot hide their criminality. They cannot hide their complicity.

“They are attempting to silence the truth. They want to silence humanity.

“They will fail. We must ensure they fail.

“The charges against Kneecap and all others who are standing against genocide must be dropped.

“Palestinians have the right under international law to resist occupation and genocide. People across the world have the moral duty to oppose war crimes against humanity.

“The British government claims to support international law, and Israel has been found guilty of crimes against humanity by the world courts.

“Therefore, it’s Keir Starmer and all those members of the British establishment complicit with Israel’s Gaza genocide who should be going on trial.”
