Derry is set to come alive this Bank Holiday weekend with an extraordinary line-up of entertainment as Mayor Lilian Seenoi Barr hosts her farewell fundraising extravaganza – ‘One Big Weekend, One Big Cause – Revved Up and Ready to Rock for Bud Club’.
Taking place on 24th and 25th May, the weekend promises something for everyone whilst raising crucial funds for the Bud Club, which provides essential services for young people with additional needs throughout the city and district.
The excitement begins on Saturday afternoon as Guildhall Square and Harbour Square transform into a supercar enthusiast’s dream from 12-4.15pm.
Thanks to local car enthusiasts Gary and Stephen McCaul, visitors will have the rare opportunity to marvel at approximately 35 luxury vehicles including spectacular models from Lamborghini, Ferrari, Porsche, McLaren and Maserati.
Popular local personality Micky Doherty will host this family-friendly showcase, perfect for both children and adults fascinated by these motoring masterpieces.
To complete the festival atmosphere, a mobile gaming truck will be available for younger visitors, whilst local food vendors will offer a variety of delicious refreshments throughout the day.
Saturday evening sees the historic Guildhall host an unforgettable night of entertainment featuring three outstanding acts. Local music sensation Ritchie Remo will open the show with his crowd-pleasing style and wide repertoire of tunes.
Comedy fans will then be treated to a performance from Black Paddy, whose unique brand of humour promises to have the audience laughing as the sun goes down.
Closing the night in spectacular fashion, The Mindbenders will present their Ultimate Yacht Rock Show, delivering nostalgic hits from The Doobie Brothers, Steely Dan, Hall and Oates, Toto, and many more iconic artists of the 70s and 80s.
The festivities continue on Sunday with a vibrant celebration of Afrobeat, house, and dance music at St Columb’s Hall. This cultural celebration will unite music lovers from diverse backgrounds for an evening of infectious rhythms and non-stop dancing.
“This weekend represents the culmination of everything I’ve worked toward during my term in office,” explained Mayor Barr.
“It’s about creating joyful moments that bring our community together whilst supporting those who need our help the most. The Bud Club provides invaluable support to young people with additional needs, offering them opportunities they might otherwise never experience.
“What makes this weekend truly special is how it offers something for absolutely everyone – from the excitement of seeing world-class supercars up close, to enjoying outstanding musical performances, to dancing the night away.
“I encourage everyone to join me for what will undoubtedly be a memorable Bank Holiday weekend whilst supporting a cause that makes a genuine difference in the lives of our young people.
“I must also express my sincere gratitude to the Garvan O’Doherty Group for their generous sponsorship of our Afrobeats evening. This support allows even more funds to go towards supporting Bud Club and is very much appreciated.”
